EDUCATOR BIO

Daniel Cantor, in additional to being an actor and director, has distinguished himself as acting instructor. He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Acting and Directing, and Head of the BFA Performance program at the renowned University of Michigan Department of Theater and Drama in Ann Arbor. Prior to teaching at Michigan, he taught for seven years in the Theater Department of Northwestern University, where he was the 2010 recipient of the Clarence Simon Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring, and was named to the 2013 Student Government Honor role for Most Excellent Faculty on campus. Daniel has also taught at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, Pace University in New York, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, The Graduate Liberal Studies Program at Wesleyan University, and at the Trinity School in New York. He conducted a private acting class in New York City, currently conducts one in Chicago, and also coaches privately. Daniel has held workshops or lectured at Case Western Reserve University’s MFA acting program, Princeton University, Stanford University, and at various forums in San Francisco and Chicago.

He was educated at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where he received a BA in Theater and American Studies, and at The American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where he received an MFA in acting, and was awarded with the Burt and Dee Dee McMurty Scholarship for excellence in acting. He also trained with the Acme Comedy Theater in Los Angeles, Brandeis University, Polaris Rep in New York, and in an acting internship at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

While teaching regularly, Daniel has maintained a career as an actor and director, working in theaters across the country, and in TV and film.
